    Hi guys,

I have recently just imported my 1999 BMW 318is and currently having issues looking for insure. I have had my full license for about a year and will have one year no claim in January. Every I have called said that I that the vehicle is too old to insure. If I went with renewing my policy with AXA they gave me a premium of 5000 which is too much considering it's a 1.9L petrol. Does anyone know any crowd that would be able to insure me or any other legal ways around getting insured.

    Any help will be appreciated!

    Thanks

    How old are you?

This would be better answered in the insurance form.

Where does the OP state it's an Irish license?

I’d say its very unlikely you’d get insurance at a decent price unless you go as named driver. Even then its still a 24 year old car so would be difficult for a parent to insure

    20+ year old car.

young driver with fairly new full license.

only 1 year full NCB in own name at best.

Unfortunatley the above is a perfect storm for most insurance companies here to decline offer of cover. As outragous as a 5k premium is, the fact that they will actually provide cover at all may sadly be the best on offer.

You need to have another vehicle insured for classic policies.

OP the only way to do it is to call every insurance company and broker you can find. But €5k for a 23 year old 1.9l petrol car isn't too far off for a novice driver. You say it's only a 1.9l petrol that's a massive engine for insurance purposes in this country, most novice drivers start in <1.2l.

Try supervalu car insurance. They are AXA broker. Failing that, a broker like McCarthy in Dungarvan seem to get good reviews. We didnt hear about them until a few months ago so havent use them myself.

My 18 year old is in same boat with a 07 fiesta and best is 2800. He has full licence and soon to have one year no claims.

The age of car is a huge issue along with the obvious age of himself. Engine size adds quite a bit also. 1.2 vs 1.6 gets hard to quote. And although you may think bhp of the 1.6 might be lower than some 1.2, it doesn't matter. The number is all they consider.

I'm 40 with the max no claims bonus(5 years) have the car for 8 years(makes me less likley to use the car for insurance fraud) and I struggle to insure a 1997 1.3 starlet as my main car. (not classic)

Insurance companies just don't want that kind of liability.

I have to renew with whatever premium my current company offers me.

I think your username is unfortunate given the task you are trying to achieve!!

I recommend you rethink your car choice until you are a few years older and have had insurance in your own name with some sort of an NCB built up.

I have an 18 year old who drives a 2005 Fiat Punto and his quote was around 1800 with a years named driver experience. I'm sure he would love to have a 'better' car but his priority is to be on the road and building up insurance in his own name.

Not what you want to hear I'm sure but that's the way it is and wishing it different won't change anything.
