Bosch WFL100/GB Washing Machine - not turning

    Hi,

Got a Bosch WFL100/GB washing machine which is not working. Thought it was a belt issue, but it is intact. Motor is not turning. I've got new belt and brushes for it here, but might send them back rather than take a punt on them fixing the issue.

Before I attempt to do anything with the motor, is there a way to check for where the fault is prior to removing the motor to replace bushes?

I was surprised that it seems to be the motor as it seems to have an instant failure when washing some heavy coats. The machine fills and drains fine - so I don't think the issue is with drainage or pump. I can hear clicking etc when the wash cycle has filled the drum and waiting to turn. There is a bit of carbon dust around the motor so it could well have brush issues. However, I thought this would be diagnosed as an intermittent failure? Seems too much of a coincidence that it occurred after some heavy coats in the machine.

Could it be that the machine has imbalanced itself and somehow needs to be reset to start working again? I've stripped the lid, floor and rear access panels from it and it looks okay. I did find a plastic transit bracket lying in the floor of it, but I don't think it was causing problems or is the reason for sudden failure.

    TIA.

    How old is the machine?

Its worth changing the brushes if you have them.

I had a similar issue before and it turned out to be the capacitor.

Do the brushes and see, if not then do the capacitor.

Is that the Washing Machine Interference Suppressor

No, it’s a small white tube, it acts like a little battery to provide a boost to the motor to help get it started.

Can be from €3 to €30 depending on the type.

Have a quick google and you’ll find it.

It's spinning now - the brushes were gone. However, all is not well. It overfilled the drum and took 4 drain cycles to empty the drum. So, onwards to the next problem. Will check the water pressure in a while and after that not sure. Must be a water level switch in the machine somewhere. But, I think it might be related to me having it on its side to replace the brushes that caused the problem.

I've got it running a spin cycle at the minute, so hopefully that will shake whatever the problem is back into operation.

Not much life left in them.

Up and running now. Thankfully replacing the brushes seems to have resolved the problem. Completed a full wash today with no problems.

So I'll replace the belt saying as I have it here and put it all back into place.
