Mods - please move to suitable subforum if required.

I am going to get a new composite front door fitted in the new year.

I fancy putting a fingerprint sensor on the unlocking mechanism.

Very little information available online. Just wondering if any of the forum users have experience of such or can send me in the right direction.

    Cheers.

I'd be a bit worried about this if it ever malfunctioned. Wonder would there be difficulties with it reading a finger print on a cold/wet day?

As least with a regular key lock you can always call a locksmith if it goes pear shaped.

There is a dedicated forum on Home Automation or iOT and I’m sure a mod can move this to that forum. Might be someone here with experience but I know there is a thread in that forum on what you’re trying to achieve. Popular in the states and there are versions with keys etc as backup

When we clock into work we do so with our fingerprint and like you just said if hands are wet it doesnt always read the fingerprint, or if there is any sort of chemicals on your hand it doesn't read it either, if i had sanitized my hands first it would never read it. Maybe it possible to get ones that are more/less sensitive

The door to our gym is fingerprint opening, has been for a good few years and hasn't failed any time I've been there. Not sure if there's any benefit to it on a private home though, unless you just like it because it's cool, which I would fully support! Just make sure you do have another option in case of a system breakdown. Another thing to consider is if you ever go away and need someone to pop by and check on the house? I always have a spare key with a friend/neighbour, that sort of thing.

The sticker under the lock on our gym door says company name of BORER, not sure if that helps you but might be a place to start?

AV3-E Winkhaus locking system can offer a finger print reader for external house entrance doorsets. We have used the locking system on projects but not with the finger print reader more so a fob card to allow home help entry.
