    Hi all..

Is it possible to remove a toilet cistern and replace with a new one. The one that is currently in place is a push button on the lid of the cistern and I want to replace it with the older handle/leaver type, Toilet will remain as is.

    Cheers.

Hi, probably not as the cistern and bowl are normally matched so you can usually only swap the whole toilet. But check with the manufacturer's site or with a supplier and they will be best advise.

Shouldn't be a problem. I just did the opposite, replaced the pan but cistern was fine so didn't change it

Would it be possible to just replace the flushing mechanism in the cistern? You could possibly drill a hole for the handle fitting, and get a blanking plug for the lid.

If your existing toilet is a closed coupled system - (the cistern sits directly on back of pan) you may have a problem getting cistern to match. But if the toilet is a low level system ( the cistern is mounted on wall with a length of pipe connecting cistern to pan) you'll have no problem but you may have to extend the pipe supplying water as water comes in the dual flush cistern thru the bottom whereas in the older style single flush cistern the water valve is, in most cases, at the top side of cistern - a longer flexi hose will do the job so nothing to worry about.
