Tool for burying cable/narrow conduit

I want to run a cat6 cable out to my shed and I can't be arsed to dig a proper trench.

When the fibre broadband people were doing my install they had a tool like a massive lawn edger that was used to make a slot in the ground for a 20mm conduit.

Anyone know what they're called and where I can get one?

    A mole plough!

    Bit excessive for a cat6!

(There must be a smaller version, but that might give you enough to work off)

I might actually be lazy enough to hire one of those!

No, I actually meant a hand tool. I have plenty of spades and shovels but a normal spade tends to grab the sod and make a mess.

You are probably looking for a variation of a thinline trenching spade.

I am not sure if they ship to Ireland but it may help when searching for a similar item

Yeah, that thing! Also from the US:

I'm getting that feeling when you want a thing that isn't available here and there's a reason it's not available here, like it only works in the desert. 😀

I have a hard time imagining how that sort of yoke would work unless where you are digging is rock-free, which is almost certainly not going to be the case in any garden here!

This is what I've seen used locally

I had to get a contractor to put a pipe in for my Ericom (at the time) phone line and they laid 250 meters of black water pipe like that then blew the phone cable down with an air line. You tie a plastic bag to the end of the cable to make a rough seal then blow that down the pipe. 250 meters is about the limit.

If you can find what contractor Eir uses locally for burying cables then you could give them a call.

Wake me up when it's all over.
