A copy of the 1916 Proclamation sold today at auction in Dublin for 170,000 euro. One could amass a most impressive library of important books for a sum like that. I am aware of the significance of the document but it still sounds like an enormous sum for a single printed page. How does one value special items like the Proclamation.

There was supposedly 2500 copies of the Proclamation printed on the day but only 50 or so survive. Previous copies sold in the last seven years have raised between €170,000 and €420,000 so that’s what they would have based their guide price on.
