Hi, I’m looking at buying a weekend runaround. I’d like something like an Audi TT Roadster, or BMW Z3 or Z4.

There seems to be very little info available online for Northern imports. What sort of charges would I expect for one of these? Looking at 2001-2004.

40% of OMSP, and customs charges if applicable

You will be liable for VRT (Vehicle Registration Tax) the same as importing from any other country. The VRT rate braket will be based on the emmissions rating of the car as well as on Revenue's valuation of what the same car is valued at here. This is called the OMSP (Open Market Selling Price). There will also be a NoX charge which for a petrol car the max NOX charge is €600. If the cars were 30 years or older then VRT would only be €200 afaik.

The only thing different about importing from NI is that if it is an original NI car then you will not be liable for customs duty and VAT. If it was previously brought into NI from mainland UK then it needs to have been registered in NI before 01/01/2021 to avoid customs duty and VAT.

With the cars your looking at it won't be cheaper than buying the same car down here but I'm guessing your buying on condition and choice than to save money over one down here.
