What is reasonable for roof repairs? Urgent and desperate :(

Hi all, I bought a small terraced house in Dublin 6 months ago, it has become clear in recent days that repairs were needed on the roof, after leaking in my bedroom increased upon removal of a wardrobe. Guy came out today to quote for the roof, ok it's not in good nick but I hastily agreed to €2.5k to fix patches in the roof.

Now it's 4 hours later and all they've done is fill in some concrete and done sealing with fibreglass/flash leading or whatever it's called. They told me they were going to the hardware shop at one point and I found them in the local Spar when I went there to take out money.

I have absolutely no idea what's reasonable for the work that's been done. Please can someone help me out a bit. I've attached some photos of before and after. It's definitely in much better condition now and the leak has been fixed, but that money seems crazy.

The last one shows some of the repairs they've done. Fairly sure I'm being ripped off but just wanted people's opinions.

Hi, is that new lead guttering/flashing, or is that shine just off the sun?

Is the company insured and registered or operating out of a van and mobile-phone?

Also ask them what they did to fix that first hole (not in an accusatory manner) and we'll have a collective think.

BTW, you can't get 2,500 out today - security blocked on the machine, Right...?!

    4 hrs. x 2 labour = 8 + 2 hour travel time = 10 x €50.00 per hour = €500.00 Materials €400.00 max. (But probably in reality €250.00 !) Total : €900.00 (Celtic tiger prices😉)

Thanks for the help! As the day wore on yesterday I realised they were talking some amount of shite, ended up giving them €600. The head honcho guy is dodgy AF. So yeah thankfully I didn't give them €2.5k, and the roof has been repaired to some extent anyway. Lesson learned! So many people preying on desperate eejits like me, short of time to check out endless roofing people.

Glad it ended well. €600 for some sort of repair seems fair. Go for roofers which advertise their insurance and profession (CIF, etc) and operate from an physical address too.

There is a list here which seems legit as I do see a well known local roofer on it, but caution is the best measure of protection.

How in the name of jaysus was the tiles missing not noticed when you were buying the property?

Next fella you see doing a roof locally call into the owner a week after n ask about them.

I think they were cracked and just removed for the photo to show the extent of the damage on the ceiling. Seems legit.
