Replacement of Combination Hot / Cold Water Tank in Apartment

    Hi all,

I have a combination hot / cold water tank in an apartment that is leaking. It’s a very slow leak currently but there is a lot of corrosion down along the side of the tank. It must be leaking for a good while.

The leak appears to be coming from the top cold water tank as it is appearing from the joint between both tanks and going down the side of the hot water tank.

I’m getting it replaced asap as I’m conscious a slow leak won’t stay that way indefinitely.

I’ve been quoted €2,000 for the job in total inclusive of VAT. Plumber is reliable and has done good work for me before.

Just wondering if the price is reasonable? I’m guessing the tanks are expensive. I don’t know their capacity but the cold water one is pretty big. The whole unit pretty much goes from floor go to ceiling.

Are you sure it's not condensation on the cold feed?

Certain unfortunately. No sign of condensation on the cold feed at all and there’s a significant amount of corrosion deposited down along the side of the tank and underneath it too.

The tank is 23 years old and a few of them have had to be replaced in the development over the years due to the same issue.

I've attached some photos to give an idea of the size of the tank and the extent of the leak. Apologies on the rotation, website refuses to display them correctly.
