NCT Test Dates Validity..

    Hi,

My NCT expires on the 11th of Jan 2023, I'm getting test dates after this, 27th Feb 2023.

My question is is there any fine in this case as the car will be without valid NCT from the 11th of Jan 2023 till the 27th of Feb if the car is not being driven, or is there a fine for expired NCT.

    Thank You

Have your name put on the list for an urgent appointment.

I was getting test dates in February for Deansgrange (NCT was up a week ago) but they just sent me an appointment for next week as I was on the list.

Dunno how you are getting Feb. I've been trying for weeks to get something in Feb and June is the earliest I can get.

I am exactly the same. NCT due in Jan and getting June.

No fine for expired NCT unless caught so if the car is not being driven then no problem. As others have mentioned you did well to get a slot in Feb as the delays in trying to book a time are ridiculous. I was on the priority list for 5 weeks I think but got there eventually.

So much for leniency given the shambolic NCT problem, driver should have gone to court with this one:

Might be down to my NCT having expired already? Definitely worth giving the urgent appointment thing a go.

From talking to guards over the years, they apply what they call "The Attitude Test" when they pull someone over. If they don't like your attitude, they'll give you a ticket rather than letting you off. If they really don't like your attitude, they'll throw in more offences. They could decide that your lack of an NCT cert invalidates your insurance and add in driving without insurance, for example.

I've been trying all that for a over a month now no joy

They'll only do that if you 2 weeks out or expired. While it has worked in past years not this year. On the other car they never ring and by dumb look I got a cancellation on the website. That was months ago, which warned me to check for the 2nd car. Thus far no look. Its always bad during the winter months.

There is availability in Abbeyfeale on the 12th of December online..... If you are looking for Dublin in the next few months, you will be hard pushed but could be lucky on the website.

Call the NCT instead and ask to be put on the priority list or wait list. They will get you one fairly quickly. Otherwise, you could get an appointment outside of Dublin reasonably soon. I booked one recently in Athlone and travelled there in the evening time to get my car tested.

    I did think of this.

But an hour there and back + the time waiting for the NCT. Best part of 3hrs. Bit nuts though.

Mine expires at the end of January 2023, luckily enough I was simply checking the NCT site in late June. First it said I was too early to be worrying about my NCT but still allowed me to continue to the next step. But the next available date for Northpoint was December 2022. Hence I booked mine back in June to get the date next week. So the backlog really has been going on for 6 months !

Same here, mine is due in April 2023 and I booked it last September, and April was the next available date back then. My friend couldn't get booking online, but rang and got a date. I think they have to get you a date if it's due. There's loads of people going off on one about not being able to get a date but all they have to do is ring the national line.

The national line never rang me back at all on my last NCT.

I've almost never been finished earlier in Dublin. It's taken up to an hour at times. Usually if I'm early they don't park you in lane, they park you further back.

I expect they might not as busy outside of Dublin. I actually had one booked in Arklow, but let it go thinking one had to come up closer. Regretting that now.

The system is completely broke in some parts - ours is due about now, booked a month ago when got notification and next date within 30miles in next April. Just print out the booking confirmation and stick it in the holder. If we get taken up on it, I'd have no hesitation in going to court. The NCT/ Dept of Transport need a good kick up the arse.

Donegal seems easiest at the moment, can get 1 next week and 3 more in December. Dublin the earliest is June.
