AO assignment but no start date

I recently got assigned a Department through an Administrative Officer (AO) open competition. I have been given the email contact for the Department's HR.

I want to know if HR will provide flexibility in the start date because I have to give at least 2 week's notice for my current job (since I have not been given a start date or received further communication I have not handed in my notice).

Also, if anyone knows how fast or slow the assignment process is. It's close to Christmas, so is it possible they are not starting anyone till the New Year? I reached out to the Department's HR via email 8 days ago and no word.

Any insight on process would be appreciated 🙏

mail them and let them know your start date.

    it should be that easy.

I've had people start in the weeks leading up to Christmas. And it one case they were there less than a week before they went on leave for Christmas (previously agreed with another CS organisation), so I wouldn't imagine there is particularly a slow down in place people just because it is a few weeks to Christmas. It really depends on where you are being assigned within the department - some units might want to get you in as soon as possible, others might say no point until after the Christmas period.

In general I couldn't see 2 weeks notice being a problem, but I'd follow up again by email or phone with HR - they may be trying to place a few people all at the same time.

If its less than 1 month to start there shouldnt be any issue
