Roy Keane's defence of Ronaldo?

I've noticed that he defends Ronaldo so strongly that other commentators need to tread very carefully in case he gets upset. I've been wondering though, is this just loyalty and nothing more? Or does he really believe that Ronaldo was good for United. He says he admires that Ronaldo still wants to be the best in the World! Well there's a lot of players that want to be the best in the World. He believes that world class players need to be treated differently!

Roy is playing the long game.Ronaldo said Roy was the best captain his had and was an inspiration for him because he set such high standard, however Ronaldo seems to completely desert someone whenever they criticise him.

Therefore Roy can always be associated with one of the greatest of all time by being his best captain if he panders to him and it assure Roy status within the game is elevated through his positive connection with Ronaldo.

Rolando I call him. Make of that what you will

Wouldn't pay any attention to a word he says. He got all high and mighty the other day about how Qatar shouldn't be hosting the world Cup, but happily travelled over to take a payday instead of giving it a miss and making a real statement (and he has experience in skipping out on world cups).

Could be just Ronaldo praised Roy and he feels obliged to back him

Ronaldo is nothing but a poor man's Stephen McPhail.

Ronaldo made some “comments” about the club, why would Keane condemn him? Keane did something similar, himself.

The club has been a mess for awhile now. Ronaldo is one of the greats of soccer, he would have fairly “exacting” standards and the club, presumably, weren’t meeting these.

For me, the club made a mistake bringing him back, expecting him to single-handedly turn things around. Solskjaer got a bum deal, he was actually building something. They had a “game plan”. The club, then, foisted a player on him that, clearly, didn’t suit this plan.

I’d say Keane might think Ronaldo shouldn’t have said anything but, at the end of the day, I’d say, he respects him for it.
