Substituting a shotgun for a .22LR

Hi all, I put a deposit on a .22lr today and hope there's no issue subbing a shotgun for a rim fire.

Anyone any experience of something similar.

The new one, not the one you are subbing.

The only section which is for the one you are subbing is the specific firearm being substituted section regarding it's details.

just had a quick read of the commissioners guidelines, and once the "good reason" is essentially the same, it is taken on a case by case basis.

so, pest control to pest control, or hunting food to hunting food etc

Thanks again, I was looking at some of posts there as well and there's some conflicting information.

I'm going to send it in anyway and fingers crossed it works.

If not I'll just go down the new licence route if need be.

Entirely depends on the district.

Some will allow it, others will not allow you to cross over "types" or "usages".

For the former read rifle, pistol, shotgun. Say if you have a 22 rifle for target shooting, and a 22 pistol for target shooting, some districts will not allow you to sub the rifle for the pistol, even with the usage remaining the same.

Usage being your good reason for owning, ie target shooting, hunting, pest control, etc.

My district errs on the stricter side of everything with licencing, so they will allow a sub of a rifle to a rifle for the same usage, but not 2 different types(rifle -> shotgun, rifle -> pistol, etc).

As others have said it really depends on the district.

I know a guy who got a sub from a shotgun to a 243 in one area and another mate was made to apply for a new license when changing his 6.5X55 for a .270 in our local station.

In section 1 on r FCA1 form, it asks if (I've held a certificate for this firearm in the previous 3 years). Or (I have not held a certificate for this firearm in the previous 3 years)

Is the above question in relation to the new one or the one I'm subbing 🤔

Thank you, I've edited it and dropped it into station few minutes ago.

Spoke with the fo this evening in the local shop and he said my application is gone for processing.

Fingers crossed it goes through without having to apply for new licence 🤞

He didn't give any more detail and I guess I was a little lax in asking where precisely.

Edit: got a call from fo tonight and they're running it through as a new application as it's not a like for like sub

Ah well, was worth a try anyway. Good to know for next time
