    Hi folks,

I needed to order something from Amazon that's UK only.

Silly me, I sent it to Parcel motel NI because I forgot they don't exist anymore

Anyway, I was thinking of asking for it to be redirected to a pickup counter in NI and then just driving up and collecting it.

I don't mind the drive but I'm wondering will there be any issues collecting it when it's obvious I'm from the Republic?

why would there be an issue?

They won't give a damn unless the item is illegal.

The person who hands you the package won't care where you live. The item was shipped from a point in the UK to somewhere else in the UK. You are picking it up in the UK. If there are any issues around VAT or customs, they will arise when you cross the border. Which is your business and nothing to do with Parcel Motel.

In the end I wasn't able to redirect the parcel so I just cancelled it instead

Thanks for the help anyway folks, I've deleted the parcel motel address so at least I won't get into that situation again

If its any help I get various items from Amazon that I collect at one of a couple of post offices in NI and never had any issues. I would normally take my driving licence with me but I think I only ever had to show it once. I just go in with the tracking number and give my name and thats all.

Thanks for that, I guess my worry was if they saw a republic drivers license they'd tell me to pay VAT and import charges before handing the package over

I think I might have overestimated how much the Royal Main in NI likes their jobs 😁

OP, you're totally overthinking this situation. You could be buying a present for your nan who lives in Newry. Why would an employee of Parcel Motel or the Royal Mail care what you do with the package after you've picked it up? Your driving licence doesn't come into it.

If I ordered a click and collect from Power City in Sallynoggin, went to collect it and showed a UK driving licence as ID, do you think they would ask me to pay UK VAT and customs charges?
