We are flying into London Gatwick in February with a 10 year old child,we are scheduled to land there around 9 pm so I'm just wondering is it better to just book a hotel near the airport that night or Head into London are trains or buses handy enough to get in to London?

Gatwick express gets you into Victoria in about 30-35 minutes.

nice efficient, modern and reliable service.

Or they could just get the local train which is half the price and takes just a few minutes more

Well you can get the Gatwick express from about 20 euros one way so won’t be breaking the bank either way. The Gatwick express has a good deal of space for luggage too.

Definitely go straight to London that night. Have you decided where you are staying. Gatwick Express is fine but only serves Victoria. For other areas it is often less convenient. With a 10 year old it’s likely better to reduce the number of changes.

Go straight to London. Gatwick express is so easy and regular. Book it online before you fly.

Yes you can get the local train but it can involve changing in croydon or other stations depending on the service so can be up to 15 minutes longer.

I've taken the local train at least 20 times and always gone to Victoria without changing. Some trains stop more often than others

Depends where you're staying, London Bridge can be gotten to in around 30 mins for less than 10 quid and it stops once at East Croydon. It's very quick to get out of Gatwick and onto a train so you'll have plenty of time.
