Warranty issue

Hi,i have a SEAT Arona which i bought new 13 months ago and has 9000kms on the clock.

Last Monday it started idling wildly and was lacking in power.

I rang my insurer's breakdown assist who said they would tow it to a Dealer who was within 30 kms max.

I nominated a local Seat dealer because the dealer i bought it from was outside the 30 kms radius for towing.

The next day(Tuesday )the service manager rang me to say that a part (throttle body?) needed to be replaced but they didnt have the part and they didnt have an ETA for its arrival but that it could take up to two weeks.I asked him if they had a loan car available to which he replied that i should ask the dealer i had bought the car from.

I felt it was unacceptable to be without a car for two weeks so i rang SEAT Ireland and they said that if i had used SEAT breakdown they would probably have given me a loan car but because i used my Insurer they would not. They also said that if the part hasn't arrived in two weeks they would "escalate the issue with their logistics department" .

Am i being unreasonable to expect a loan car for the duration of the repair?

Sadly, the first mistake was your own. You should have rang Seat Assist. Replacement car would probably come from some of the hire companies. I don't think the dealers are under obligation to provide replacements,so your battle isn't with them.

Go back to Seat Assist & talk louder this time.

What did your selling dealer say?

Considering its a brand new car, you are not being unreasonable to expect a loan car, but they are under no legal obligation to provide one.

I had the insurance details to hand so i just rang them.

I'll give the dealer i bought it from a ring tomorrow.

BTW this a quote from the Seat website:

"Is your SEAT in the shop? Choose a courtesy car from a wide range of SEAT models. No delay. No inconvenience. Just the road."

Get the car out of the garage, then ring SEAT assist?

Its a bit underhanded but it actually works but the franchises HQs dont really approve of it - Ive done it a few times for customers when we didnt have cars available or used their insurance breakdown instead of the manufacturers one.

If they have called their insurance breakdown or AA and lost the benefit of the courtesy car we used to drive the car ( or tow it) back to their house or even just a couple of kms away and then ring the franchised breakdown assist.

Also if you are going to try this depending on the franchise theres usually a clause somewhere that the car must be broken down X number of Kms away from a dealer.

In your case Id tell the dealer that you are taking the car away until the part arrives and then ring Seat assist the next day to say you couldnt drive it and thought that you could have manged to drive it until the part arrived.

Then you`ll get your courtesy car until the part arrives.
