Swap: Chapter 2 Tere Rim brake frame (56)

I bought this frame on Adverts for 800 around this time 2 years ago. Condition is pristine - there’s really not a mark on it. I built it out with DA9000 di2 and it’s done about 1000km of sunny day spins in the meantime. Frame is aero shaped but with wide tyre clearance (I think it was an ‘all road’ concept). Currently there’s GP5000s 28s on and there’s still c 8mm clearance to seat tube and fork. It’s a limited edition colour way and individually numbered. Original adverts ad is here:

Size is ‘L’ but its exactly same stack and reach as my 56 disc cervelo. For reference, I’m just under 6foot and I have seatpost at lowest setting so I guess it might work 5’10 to 6’2. Geometry details here:

I’ve been keeping an eye out for a new frame as I fancy a change and a bit of a project. As mentioned on other threads here though, rim frames in good condition, right size etc are like hens teeth. Also I think the cost to replace it with something of similar quality has gone way up. I think that it would probably cost c 1200 to find an equivalent replacement for the frame. I don’t want to be gouging but at the same time don’t want to spend cash and up with something lower quality.

My long shot then is to see if anyone has a frame of similar size, condition and quality that they would consider a swap on? Open to adding some cash either way into the mix if it makes sense. Bike is fully built up and available for a test ride in South County Dublin in case of interest.

I was on another thread pimping out two outrageously good rim-brake bargains - a Cervelo R5 on donedeal with sram red etap on it and nice wheels, you'd sell those bits no problem and have a top frame for yourself. Or Docman (I think it is?) is selling a gorgeous Bianchi infinito CV with full dura ace on it. Both are your size and again, you'd sell the dura ace 9100 groupset absolutely no problem. I bought a bike off Docman a few years ago and it was in absolute showroom condition.

I think I offered you my Cervelo S2 before - and I will again! :D It's a beautiful bike to ride. Frameset is identical to the S3, just the forks are less aero. Like it's a way more deserving frame than the 105 and Shimano RS500 build that Cervelo retailed it at. I'm looking for a while for a frame that'll take wider tyres. We could swap cash your way maybe? I'm in South Dublin too if you wanted to play I'll-ride-yours-if-you-ride-mine ? :D

Another frameset I have on my list actually which you might not have seen is on adverts - a Canyon Aeroad CF SL with dura ace brakes and the aero cockpit and it's in the lovely blue Movistar colours. Not the top SLX frame but, really, who can tell the difference. Again, I bought a canyon ultimate frameset off the same lad and it was in as-new nick.

Was following other thread too and saw those options. Think I would prefer to arrange a swap if it’s possible.

do you have a link to the canyon?

Old ad now but says still available. It starred in several ads, as a full bike and as a frameset and other combinations in between.

I think I’ve sourced a replacement so putting this out there for sale. Asking price is a firm 1200. I know that that’s more than I paid for it but I think that it’s competitively priced in current times and I’m looking at a similar replacement cost for something of same quality.

Included is frame, fork, seatpost, bb, headset & cages. Inspection welcome in south Dublin.

Feckin hell that's some mark up, I get it's a sellers market and they're all taking advantage of the covid tax but I can't see anyone paying that knowing what you paid for it 🙈 It is a pretty frame though, good luck wit the new frame.

i understand your remark - I’ve been totally transparent here on the logic and the reasons for pricing that way so not trying to rip anyone off. At same time, if you can point to a better value frame that’s available, I’m a buyer!

50% markup after you put more miles on it?? Shameless

I think your remark is really unfair. I’ve been totally open. I said that my preference is to swap it for something similar but there’s nothing going. The cost of anything similar out there is in that price range. I’m not looking to pocket a profit or ‘upgrade’ - I’m looking for a change is all. The sale proceeds are going into a different second hand frame, which also is now no doubt more expensive than it would have been 2 years ago.

If you have a look at my history here you’ll see that I’ve never tried to take the piss - I’ve sent stuff to people for free and even reduced price after deal agreed (including to a poster on this thread).

Anyway, you’re entitled to your opinion & I’ll leave it there as I’m fairly sure I won’t change your mind.

Lovely frame and well priced. You are 100% right in that the market is different now to when you bought it. I don't see it as profiteering as anything that you try to buy to replace it would have increased in price. GLWS, if I was in the market I'd be interested.

Your frame, your sale and best of luck with it.

It is an unusual one though and you're biggest obstacle is ignorance of the make and model. There's a lot of value out there for the rim braked bike buyer at the moment.

Why the sale at all as a matter of interest, seeing as you're looking to replace it with something essentially very very similar?

Interesting take on it but it is 100% profiteering there's no getting around that one. Is that wrong? nope, plenty of people hanging onto things for several years and selling on at a profit. I think the fact OP stated he paid X and is now selling at Y I find a bit distasteful.

Take out the known facts and put up as a chapter 2 frame basically a Neil Pryde at €1200 I'd say it's a nice frame but overpriced in my eyes.

OP I didn't mean to offend and good luck with your sale. I'd be curious to see what you're changing to as it's a very nice frame particularly compared to the aeroad posted above.

    😁

No offence taken. At the end of the day, I’m just looking to change a frame!

I’m not totally satisfied with the fit. I think it might be that the seatpost is a few mm too long. I’ve it down to lowest it will go at the moment. I might just get it shortened a smidge and see how that goes. Also I like the idea of a build project over the winter.

I can’t see it being sold on here after this dumpster fire of a thread so will close it up mid week here if there’s no interest and move to DoneDeal.

If I end up holding on to it that won’t be a bad outcome either. Maybe I can make even more profit from it in a year or two! 😁😁
