Importing an engine swapped car from the UK

Hi all,

I am looking import an bmw e36 318i from the uk that has a 2.5 litre engine in it. It is currently still registered as an 1.9 on the books. If i was to register it here would there be any issues? I am aware that I have to inform the tax office about the cc capacity. When vrting it will the logbook change from 318 to 325? The car has MOT and is Taxed over there. I am also aware with the whole insurance situation. Is there also any else that I am missing out on that could put me in a difficult situation.

Any help would be appreciated as this is my first time in this situation!

The car will be registered as whatever is on the V5 logbook

They check the engine number at NCT v's whats on the Irish logbook, that car would be worth circa nothing if imported under undeclared swapped engine conditions.

It would normally be caught at VRT stage.

They do not check the engine number in an NCT, chassis number yes, engine number definitely not.

When its being VRT'd its very similar, they check the stamped chassis number.

Engine number is not checked at NCT or VRT.

The only time its checked at VRT is when the engine number is not present on the registration certificate, and this is not the case for UK imports

I have vrt'd 5 cars or so, and only one time, did I see them looking and asking for the engine number, they could have done it the other 4 times but I did not notice. It was a Japanese Toyota Prius PHEV.

That proves my point. Its only checked when there is no engine number on the registration certificate
