Reducing wheel size on a VW Tiguan

    Hi all, I have a 2018 2.0 tdi R line Tiguan with the 20” alloys tyre size is 255 40 R20

i fitted a set of pirelli p zero back in July, just checked the tyres this evening and the front tyres have just about 2 mm remaining after doing about 12,000KM

the 20” tyres are expensive to me, now that I need a set of front tyres, would it effect the car anyway if I changed the alloys to a 17” Tiguan alloy ?

the tyres should be about €70 a tyre cheaper ?and would leave the car more comfortable on the road ?

finding the R line very harsh on rough roads

other option to trade it instead of that messing 😅😅

Buy different tyres, any Pirelli's I’ve ever had did crap mileage.

Thanks Colm, any brand in particular that gives good grip and can do a fair bit of mileage also ?

Ah you couldn’t put 17 inch wheels on an R Line Tiguan.. that would be a crime.

20 inch tyres are definitely expensive, but there are cheaper alternatives to Pirelli.

Two options below if you are looking for more affordable tyres.

I had four of these Imperial Ecosports on an Audi TT before and never had a problem with them. They are actually the cheapest tyre available in your size at €95 each which would suggest poor quality but I had a good experience of them.

I think these Kumho’s are a decent tyre too, they are €145 each. There are also some other decent brands for €150+

The Pirelli’s are coming in at €233 each on Oponeo. So a saving of up to €550 with the Imperial ones.

Also Pirelli’s aren’t a good tyre in my experience

Just went from 20 to 18" on s line a4 quattro, I got 4 used alloys with 70% bf goodrich tyres for the price of 2x255/35/20 tyres... Comfort levels way up

You will need to program the abs unit for the new size wheels if done

Non factory wheels need to be notified to insurance. Car needs to be coded so it displays correct speed on gauge, may need dealer or aftermarket programming.

Or you could just not do either of those things like everyone else does

Im driving a 2022 Tiguan with 18's and had a garage Tiguan R-Line for a few days with the 20's. Delighted to get back into my own- the ride is ruined by the bigger wheels. I see a nice set of used original 18's online for not much more than the cost of two 20'inc Pirelli tyres. Keep the old 20'in for when you are selling the car and then flog these at that stage

    That’s a good deal there
