Insulation Panels between outdoor kerosene boiler and wall - OK to remove?

The boiler at my property is installed outside, aprox 30cm away from the kitchen wall. The boiler has some internal insulation within the casing, and two panels of insulation have been placed in the 30cm gap between the boiler and the wall.

Would it be OK to remove these panels? They are beginning to decay and I am suspicious that a few four-legged creatures have made a home in there.

My worry would be that it would result in some kind of heat transfer from the boiler to the wall, damaging the wall. Considering the boiler is encased and has its own insulation, and the 30cm gap, I would think this isn't an issue.

    Any thoughts?

I'm guessing that they are of very limited function as the boiler already has internal protective glass-wool insulation.

Would you take a photo of the setup? What do you see behind it if you pull it out and is the wall a standard cement/block/render configuration?
