Hi all

Just looking for advise on the most suitable OBD scanner to buy - vehicles are 2019 VW Transporter & 2015 VW Polo petrol. Complete novice here but willing to learn. Just need it for basic diagnostics before going to garage, they charge me €120.00 for the privilege.😢 I had a quick look at the following on line. Would you recommend any of the ones listed below or is there a better one available. Thanks

There is a proprietary VW tool called odb 11 that is good for VW cars. It uses your phone and only their dongle.

Fancier options are pay to use with credits. It's no good for non VW cars. Great for beginners as it mostly just works and displays the correct errors.

Vcds on a laptop is what is used by smaller back street garages. Lots of rip off versions on likes of adverts as it's expensive.

Cheapest is a 10 euro odb dongle and free phone app torque. This will do most car brands.

I would not buy any scanner with a display as they are limited and hard to update. Often they lead you astray of actual issue.

Read/watch the reviews for each. OBDeleven is probably the best there for VAG where it can interrogate all system modules and can do as much as VCDS possibly if you know your long coding.
