So its time to put a new set of boots on the aul motor.

Looking for recommendations from the group here as everywhere i look it's down to what they want to sell you not whats the actual best ones available.

Once place stating the best they have is x, the next stating that they wouldn't put those on a pram but have these alternatives to sell me. 🙄

    Size required: 205 55 R16

For a Skoda Superb diesel estate

Want something for decent handling, not too much road noise and safe as have the little one in the car.

I do a decent bit of mixed driving, city and motorway so if they can last 20-30k kms, I'd be happy.

Budget of up to €120 per corner.

    All suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Bridgestone Turanza T005 are what I always get; they're one level down from top premium, low noise, good wearing, and very safe in wet and dry conditions. Get them on online and bring them somewhere to get them fitted. That's what I do each time.

Good Year Efficient Grip have very good grip, they do big mileage and they’re quiet.

Always ring around tyre places and agree a tyre before you go in there, shop around.

so many people end up with Chinese “these are made in the same factory as Continental, they’re a good mid range tyre” tyres.

    Mid range = budget now.

Michelin crossclimate 2 €103 per corner from oponeo.ie right now. Best tyre going and super safe

Vredestein and Maxxis are the two best wearing tyre brands i've ever come across, 30k on both

    Kumho Ecowing or Nexen.

You will not be disappointed with Nokian Wetproof, amazing in the wet and dry. Max 70 quid a tyre

    70 quid in what country?

Yokohama Advan Sport. Just swapped out set that was fitted over 2yrs ago to 520d M-Sport. Non run flats. Excellent grip in both wet & dry conditions. 40k miles between changes. Purchased from Oponeo and fitted locally. Highly recommended.

Another for Efficient Grip, ticks all the boxes and you'll appreciate how quiet they are.

Ref Efficientgrip- The Octavia is very sensitive to noisy tyres (I.e not especially well insulated around the wheel wells and boot) and the difference between them and Bridgestone Turanzas is quite noticible. Superb probably wouldn’t suffer as badly that way.

Upgraded to Good Year F1 Asymmetric 6 earlier this year and while they’re still quiet I don’t expect the same mileage.

I see tyres have different labels for fuel efficency, wet weather performance, noise etc.

The "best" that I can see that would fit my car have "A" for wet weather and "B" for fuel efficiency. There are other tyres available that I would percieve to have "worse" ratings, yet they are more expensive.

    For example:

    https://www.oponeo.ie/tyre/michelin-pilot-sport-cup-2-connect-235-40-r18-95-y-xl-zr#409991678

    vs

    https://www.oponeo.ie/tyre/bridgestone-turanza-t005-235-40-r18-95-y-xl-fr#410924025

I know they are different brands but they are both "premium".

Is there more to it than I am understanding?
