Was selling a mobile on adverts, normally people call to my house or I meet at the local shops, however this person wanted me to post the item, how does that work, do they pay me first and then I post item, I would be concerned that the item may not arrive or may even arrive and the buyer says it didn't arrive. Any advice?

you apply your rules. It is for buyer to agree or not
