Just signed up for this one. A race I've done a few times but yet to actually get a good result there. No doubt a fast course due to the downhill nature but a challenging enough first half to make up for that. Limited to 1200 participants apparently. Sold out very quickly last year but no doubt the demand will be a bit lower this year, like all races.

Must try and get a bit of speed work in over the next few weeks!

Signed up a few weeks ago. It's a great event and one that I really associate with the start of the Christmas season. The mugs are always welcome too.

It's definitely a PB friendly course but it's easy to forget that first half contains a significant drag. I blew up midway last year so going to try and pace it a bit better this time around. I doubt I'll get much in the way of speedwork done in advance as I'm determined to take my time in recovering from Amsterdam. I'd still be reasonably hopeful of a PB off the back of a good marathon block though.

I also signed up a couple of weeks ago. Looking forward to having my first crack at a 5k PB in 6 years!

My eldest lad and myself have signed up. First time doing it but always read positive reports about it on here.

Any mention of Raheny 5mile or when entries will likely open?

Also signed up for this. Unfortunately this race hasn't been kind to me at all! The 2 times I did it were a disaster 🙈 Let's hope it's 3rd time lucky😁

Fingers crossed for a calm morning and no frost.

Signed up too. It's a funny race, potential to be a pb course but hasn't worked out that way for me. Tough mudder of a start (especially with a cold wind howling down Chesterfield Avenue like last year), middle section allows some recovery, and it's set up for a flying finish.

Nearly snuck a pb 1st time I ran it, but well off the pace the last 2 times.

I like this race, always a great atmosphere, and of course, potential....

I love this race; it kicks off the Christmas season for me. It also just so happens to be my PB race. I’m not in PB shape but couldn’t resist keeping the mug collection going, so I’m signed up again this year.

I agree about it kicking off Christmas, and most of the years running and races are behind you so a great opportunity to throw off the shackles and give it a lash....love the mug too.

I see it's sold out now.

As good a reason as any to start logging again too E 😉

Managed to sign up for this in time. Got my PB here last year. Not quite in PB shape right now but still looking forward to it. I pretty much treated this as a 4K race and just hang on as much as possible on the last 1K. It worked well last year so I'll attempt the same again this year.

One of the best races on the calendar. Also my PB race.

Hopeful of a new one this year, good marathon block should stand.

are there any other 5 or 10k's of note in dec or jan that would be worth entering?

Another good one here. Starts and finishes on the track which is always nice.

I registered for myself and my daughter (14) a while ago, when I registered I noted the underage entry was unchipped. How does this work with finish time? Will it be just a matter of telling her my time and leave it at that or do they have a parkrun type scenario where she will get a token and time based on this?

Maybe someone here knows the reason to have unchipped at all?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,595 ✭✭✭✭Murph_D

The juniors are untimed, essentially. Our young lad has run it a couple of times and is happy to just take his time from the finish line clock.

Route profile for tomorrow if anyone is interested. Black/White increments are 250 metres long.

    Cracking race as always.

Delighted to continue my unbroken run of setting my 5k pb at it.

It's the perfect time of year really for PB chasing.

Kudos to Donore on a magnificently organised event. Volunteers were fantastic, so friendly.

Great run C and thanks for the positive comments, I will pass them on.....I missed you and E at the final turn onto the finish triangle as I believe I was dealing with a "difficult/entitled" car driver at the time you guys passed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,448 ✭✭✭Lazare

Thanks so much C, was looking out for you.

    Sean said he spotted you.

You handed me my mug one year in full elf costume. That not happening this year is my only gripe 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,427 ✭✭✭scotindublin

My Assitant Head Elf Duty has been passed on......just regular stewarding for me this year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 495 ✭✭Butterbeans

Always so well organised. It really is set up for a stab at a PB, seasons best or whatever the goal is.

Bad planning on my part this morning saw me just make the start line.

After a year of relatively low mileage for me, I was delighted to run my fastest 5k this year by a good 50 seconds.....and of course another mug for the collection!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,595 ✭✭✭✭Murph_D

Whoever posted that originally must have run/cycled it backwards!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,595 ✭✭✭✭Murph_D

Super stuff C - really well done, it’s never as easy as it looks on paper so that’s an excellent result. Missed it myself after starting the thread. 😂

Haha...I don't know why it is posted at that angle. I think the coloured section above the broken line illustrates the gradient.

A really enjoyable morning as ever. Caught up with a few running acquaintances and even managed a somewhat unexpected PB. Cracking weather for it too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,027 ✭✭✭willowthewisp

PB, and my first time to go under 20. Delighted.

    Thanks Jingle Bells!

Hey, Does anyone have an entry for this years race that are not taking part?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,800 ✭✭✭Huzzah!

Hello! This kicks off at 9:30; how early would I need to be in the Park to get parked etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,595 ✭✭✭✭Murph_D

An hour beforehand at the Papal Cross car park is usually enough, a bit earlier if you want to be sure.
