Trying to understand the problem with a friends tax issue

I have a friend who, along with his wife, started working in Ireland about 4 months ago.

They got their PPS, got hit with emergency tax and did all the bits required to have that sorted.

However they still seem to be paying incorrect tax and I don't understand what needs to be done to sort it out. For example the wife was paid 318 and paid 63 tax, 0 PRSI and 1.50 or so in USC.

The husband got 225 and paid something like 95 eur tax. I don't recall the PRSI and USC.

I know the wife has gotten her emergency tax back (saw the payslip) and himself says his is sorted too but I'm not sure based on the above figures.

They've asked me to assist when they come over and we're going to look at their stuff on the revenue site. Is there something obvious that I need to look for?

Sounds like they're on a Week 1 / Month 1. Revenue often do that for non-Irish who make have had offshore income earlier in the year.

Start by checking the tax credits and SRCOP on the payslip or tax credit cert.

I looked at the tax cert the wife was issued and it all seems fine afaik but I'm no expert. I'll look at it again to make sure

Looks like this might be the issue for the wife.

For the husband I think he may still be on emergency tax

If payslip shows tax credits at zero then their being emergency taxed.

Best thing to do is login to their revenue accounts and click on 2019-2022 and submit a statement of liability for each of them and they'll get refunded for 2022.

then click on manage tax for 2023 and click credits their entitled to and then they should be taxed on a cumulative basis going forward.
