Help with replacing old spindle and leaky faucet

    Hi,

I hope someone can provide some advice on this as I am baffled. I have an old faucet that is leaking. I removed the little button that sits on top of the tap and encountered this, does anyone know how to remove the spindle on this, is it a special tool or is it the little screw below in the other picture. The thread is not large enough to take a screwdriver on side of the spindle head, or it seems that way.

    Any help is appreciated.

The screw is the fixing alright. Probably caked solid. soak it with something like limescale remover, even Wd40 might be enough to soften up the deposits.

You might not need to remove the handle from spindle at all, if you can unscrew the done shaped cap that the spindle goes into. A sticky fist is probably the job here. Maybe try a kettle of boiling water to help shift it.

Then unscrew the brass nut to remove the innards.

Hint - Open the tap halfway first, it helps to take the pressure off the threads
