Replacing old heating timer switches

    Hi Everyone,

Need some help with deciding on some heating smart controls. I know this issue has been done to death, but I'm still very unclear as to what I need

I have an old type clock heating timer (Image 1)

that I want to replace with a smart timer. Single zone. Nothing fancy. Just basically swap out the control for one I can use on an app to just turn on heating / turn off heating, set timings etc!!!. I'm looking at the Tado V3+. My question is: Is this straight forward by just taking off the existing control and wiring in this one (Obviously I'll use an electrician!!)

Secondly in a similar fashion, I'd like to also be able to do the same for my immersion switch & timer. (See image 2)

To replace them both with a single smart unit. For this I have no idea of what is required and I'm looking for suggestions for units I can buy. Is there extra work required here other than a simple removal and replacement??

    Appreciate any inputs!

    Thanks, Brian

The tado is dead easy to install (just 2 wires needed), until it comes to the configuration bit. Installer manuals are available online tho. I did my own, without hot water control.

They conveniently forget to mention you need the extension kit for hot water control, and it only supports motorised valves for heating water by the boiler.

The Immersion is a bit of a problem ; I'm still not sure if there's a smart switch out there thats capable of handling the electrical current required. A clued-in electrician can fit a smart switch with an external relay, wont be controlled by Tado though, it will be another app.
