Music device for 10 year old

Any suggestions for a 10 year old who loves listening to music (uses my smartphone when allowed to scroll through deezer/ free music etc) , not getting her a phone and mp3 players won't have the scroll-ability factor she likes.... wanted an ipod but really don't want to pay a monthly subscription for I tunes when we already have deezer etc.. thinking of giving her an old smartphone without sim that just contains music app, but not sure if it will work... anyone have another suggestion.. thanks in advance

Yeah, I gave my 10 year old my old smartphone to be used exclusively for music. You just need to monitor it to ensure he/she isn't adding more apps and games without your knowledge.

You can get dedicated mp3 players which have Spotify / Deezer etc; example below but no idea of the quality;

Thanks for that. Think I might go with old phone first and go from there. Not sure how much it will be used in the longer term. We have parental controls on the devices anyway which won't allow them to add apps without permission , but will definitely be keeping an eye. Thanks

My son has a Google Nest Audio connected to Spotify/Apple Music, better than using a device with a screen IMO

About the only thing I use my smartphone for is listening to music and audio books I download or rip from CD on a PC.
