Nature Is All Screwed Up...

I was at my pond this evening and saw a number of young water hens scurrying in the rushes. These were the size of chicken eggs so not that long hatched, on what is the second day of November with horrendous wind and rain. Probably little hope of survival?

It depends. A mild winter and they will survive, but nature sure is confused. On monday temperatures across Britain went over 20c. People were sunbathing in the south of france.

In the National Botanical Gardens in the UK, they have plants that only flower in spring, but are flowering now.

The big worry is if we get a sudden sharp frost, many plants and creatures are scuppered.

They're not that late. A third clutch as late as the end of September is not unusual. As for survival, who knows but thats why they have so many chicks.
