O'Neills pub & restaurant Dublin closed

Any idea why this place has closed down? Went out for a drink last Thursday (27/10) and the place was in darkness. Was open the day before.

They probably haven't put this up on their facebook.

O’Neills (public house), 2 Suffolk Street, Dublin 2, was found to have a live rodent and fresh droppings on site, and did not having adequate procedures for controlling pests.

It has always been just a normal pub, lacks atmosphere and too touristy for my liking but why would you call it an absolute kip?

I used to go there regularly enough in the mid 90s and it was a good spot. But then the place got very touristy and foodie. Smell of cabbage would knock you over. Have not darkened their doorway in decades.

They will reopen once they have cleaned the rodents out etc and the tourists wont know any different.

the notice was from the end of October. I was there on the 2nd of Nov (as a "tourist"), after the shops closed and it was open. It was quite full and all locals from what I could gather. It emptied a bit after the united game

The smell could well be soup as they have some sort of soup cauldron there behind the bar

When you think about it the single best time to visit a rat infested eatery is right after they have been forced to close down for a day by the HSE. There is a 90% chance that the place is now rat free.

They don't really rely on a "local" customer though. I'd say if you went in there on Saturday most of the people would never have been in there before and will never be back.

If this was in a town where they counted on the local trade they'd be fairly fecked.

Funny seeing it described as a tourist pub. Its been a few years but I used to pass it all the time and all I ever saw was drunken locals standing outside in the middle of the day.

They were into selling hugely overpriced Irish craft beer to tourists before it became fashionable to do so.

Definitely more a random trade pub (tourists both Irish and foreign, people in for watching a match, people going for a drink after work the odd time etc) than a place with a large contingent of regulars.

I can vouch for the big soup cauldron behind the bar.

Work colleague partook of the Irish pub staple usual sort of “cream of veg” soup from it few weeks back.

We were there on Sunday. Food was cold. They came out with chips, sorry wedges to us three times, we only ordered one. They got order wrong on the table beside us.

Limited menu as the kitchen was/is being refurbished.

It’s not really near any residential area though… just retail shoppers and other businesses staff in the area.

a lot of pre gig goers would pop in too before heading to the Olympia or Vicar st…both joints always a pain to get a pint.
