Pub where Dunnes Stores is now near Eyre Square

hello Galwegians,

I'm having a brain freeze, trying to remember the name of the pub where Dunnes Stores shop is at the top of Eyre Square past Supermac's.

I watched Arsenal beat Liverpool there to win the league in 1989. Not sure how long pub remained after that, though that's not the reason it closed!

Not in Galway any more (and not for a long time), but there was a pub called 'Lenihans' right beside Dunnes - then again, Dunnes may have expanded/rebuilt in the meantime.

Is the Imperial.Hotel still there? Its where all the Connemara people would go after a day shopping in Galway, lots of gaeilge to be hear there. Few pints, hop in the car for the 50km drive home .. no bother back those days.

You went downstairs into The Tavern. In the 80s, twas a big soccer pub.

Yep, and then it became Zhivago Records, I think. Quinnsworth (now Tesco Galway SC) bought the bar license to allow off license sales in the supermarket.

Think it's the convenience store that's in that unit now, part of it may be the barber too.

Woolsworth were there at one stage or maybe that was where supermacs is.

SuperMacs is Woolworths - The place in the OP is a few doors up beside Dunnes. According to the new Google street view images it's Ali's Barbers now ...

@Juran - street view also gives a fine view of the Imperial.
