What do you want to use it for? €200 in the difference so a bug chunk of change

955 is still very buggy Forerunner 955 Series - Running/Multisport - Garmin Forums

    Hi

Thanks for that, will mainly be using for running,it's the map feature on the 955 that is making me think about going for the 955 over the 255

After a bad experience with the 645 a few years back, I'll never buy any Garmin watch 'til it's a year old! The 955 appears to be a buggy mess still going by the Garmin forum.

I've the 955 and find it fine, what issues are people having? I find the maps great but more so for cycling than running, usually with running I kind of know where I' going unless i'm on holidays or something.

255 is probably fine for most things, touchscreen nice but not really necessary, I find the climb pro useful for cycling but again for running not much benefit.

I like the new features, HRV, Running Power, training readiness etc. Not critical features but useful.

It's a bit bulkier than my 645 so that would be my one complaint, but unless you are going to go for a more expensive Fenix you won't find a better watch.

255 is probably fine for most uses though if it's €200 cheaper. I'd definitely wait till Black Friday and see what discounts there are though.

I have a Garmin 945 which I just had to send back. I got the following watch for my wife and am wearing it till I get the 945 back. It's a great deal tbh. Just had to run all the software updates a few times in settings and it's perfect and very good value for money with spotify and garmin pay (which you can use with revoult)

I have a 745 which is a happy medium. I think it's designed for triathlons but these days I take it for gentle walks every now and again. Overkill for my use.

I'd be wary of the downsides to buying a smartwatch version - like the vivo active. The battery life will be nowhere near as good as the forerunner series. I still have the garmin pay feature, O2 sat etc. There are some bugs I've discovered but otherwise it's pretty good and gets daily wear from me.

My big bug bear with it is that you set up an alert to a block for a set range of pace. Say 4:58 - 5:02 Previously this would be your lap avg but now it is what your current pace. You might be in a 10km tempo session and your watch is beeping like mad because you are going up a hill and dropping a few seconds but still in your overall range. It is like they've not built it on previous versions of the OS.

I mean that's purely personal prefernce and not a bug at all. I prefer current pace over lap average pace for the alerts.

The only bug I've had with the 955 was setting map locations which they've fixed in the latest version.

It is a bug as never had the issue in 745, 945, 410. You create a workout and specify the range to be of a lap to be between a range

Any good deals in the 955? Where’s the best place to buy one?

Bought the 955 on mysatnav.ie. It was the best value around I could find. Great service - had it in two days. I love the watch too btw.

Just be aware that Garmin are about to release new versions of both of these watches, so may be worthwhile to see if prices for the older versions drop at that point.

It's very nice! Definitely on my list too. Dropped from 4-5 weeks to 2-3 weeks lead time today. The 265S went down to 2-3 days at one stage. Keeping a close eye on the site!
