Allowable expenses against property rental

I know a landlord can claim expenses such as building repairs and maintenance done to a property he is renting out but what if the landlord does the repairs himself? I am asking specifically to motor costs incurred by the landlord to bring materials to and from the property in order for the repairs to be done. Could the cost of diesel used in these situations be claimed for his van?

Afraid not, only the cost of the materials.
