Reattach Plastermould Centrepiece

    Hi,

A centrepiece around a light in my kitchen became detached when I put up a new lampshade. The centerpiece appeared to be plastered to the roof with just small screws used where the rose is attached to the ceiling. I’m no builder but this is really cat and dangerous. I wish to reattach this and secure the other mound in the kitchen. I have access to the ceiling above it. The joists are 100mm deep. What is the correct way to do this?

    Thanks!

Take it down. If it's loose carefully. Then glue it with gripfix or similar and put full thread screws into it to hold in place. The gripfix will hold it forever.

Just use longer screws into the joists above

preferrably use a battery drill and slightly recess the screws

use a bit of filler to cover the screw heads

Glue is actually better than screws in this case, you can even just use something like cove adhesive.

    Screws might crack it.

Just an update. I glued it and screwed it. I put a noggin between the joists and predrilled holes in the mound. Then my wife and I stood on the kitchen table and held it up having applied the glue and I frantically started screwing it in while trying to hold it at the same time. It’s very heavy. There was a lot of cursing and blinding but it’s up now anyway and looks perfect. :)
