Small group of cyclists (probably 3 or 4) in that area next Saturday 29th October. Need somewhere to pitch small tents. Can't seem to find campsites. Would ideally like a small patch of ground near to Bangor Erris or another small town close to there with a shop & pub. We don't light fires and we leave nothing behind except footprints! Any advice?

Not familiar enough with the area to give any recommendations tbh but I'd say if you rock up to the town, someone in the local shop should be able to advise.

There are designated wild camping sites in Ballycroy National Park which would be lovely but it's probably 15-20k from Bangor and not serviced

The region is sparsely populated, esp in winter months. Lot of blanket bog, grassier areas along the big rivers. From memory, some sort of park or river path in Bangor Erris and a tourist office there (summer?). Best ask in shop. Ballycorick a bit away, where the ESB station used to be, is like a ghost town, forestry and wind farm thereabouts, would be loads of space for a few tents but no shops or services.

i cycle through bangor fairly regularly, cant think of anywhere to camp really that fulfills your criteria, opposite the gaelic pitch on the road out to newport is the start of the bangor trail and this area would be part of the national park , but it is boggy , heathery and wet, there might be dry sections close to the road ,

there arent a lot of camping sites around, i think claggan island just outside belmullet might have some kind of campsite , they have pods as well, but they arent really close to pubs, shops etc,

if you want to go for a complete change of location, healys pub in ballycastle has a campsite out the back which seems to be popular, without knowing what your plan is, you could go on to bangor after via bellanaboy,
