Who is in for this? 13Km or 26Km?

I missed it last year so looking forward to it since I enjoyed it so much in 2019.

I'm running DCM with a friend next Sunday & both of us are in for the 26k at RTL as well. Mountain running is much more his thing than road running so think I'll have a tough time keeping up.

I'm giving the short course a go. Not for time or placing - just for something different.

    Also doing the DCM.

If anyone has a ticket they are not using. I delayed entering and now it’s sold out

I did this (26k) last year and it's an amazing event.

Plenty of parking, very well organised, marked, and marshaled, and a brilliant route for a great cause, what more could you want!

The burgers from the cafe at the finish line are worth running up a mountain for as well 🤣

My top tip for those new to the hills, is take it very easy, and even walk, on the steep up hill sections, especially in this race with such a sharp climb right at the start.

For those that world like to try more hill running after this, check out clubs like IMRA.ie for more races.

See you out on the hills 😁

I'm in for the 26k. They allow transfers so got one through a triathlon club mate.

The GAP cafe burgers are unreal!

Huge respect to the organisers. Transfers are allowed, and they put up a facebook post asking people to comment if they have entries to sell.

Yeah, that's fantastic! Especially compared to the Dublin marathon 2 weeks ago!

Lots of rain out there at the moment. I find Sealskinz socks great for wet runs. They're waterproof, so keep your feet dry, apart from the sweat!

Race information can be found here.

Does anyone have experience starting in the fast/medium wave? Are they big groups?

I started at the back of the slow wave in 2019 and probably sold myself short a little from a pace perspective but it was good to be around more experienced trail runners. It was a little congested on the single trail and I ended up overtaking a few when the paths widened. Aiming for somewhere around the 1:20-1:25 range. Unsure if starting at the front of the slow wave or at the back of the fast/medium wave is going to be the best for me.

Early weather report on windy.com has it down as wet and windy which would make it an interesting race.

We started in wave 3 last time round for the long course & think there were < 5 people in total starting in that one! This time we'll start at the back of wave 2 just to avoid the extra bit of waiting around. The goal was 3h as far as I remember.

I'll start fretting about the weather tomorrow 🙄

When I was there last year, you could go out in a wave, or, just start anytime you like after the first wave!

Not sure if they're doing that this year, but I thought it was a great idea! Your chip time starts whenever you cross the start line.

And on the weather, wet tree roots are surprisingly slippy!!

I injured myself a week after the marathon and Saturday is just too soon for me, so I have a Long Course ticket for sale if anyone is still looking. Please PM.

Weather is looking ok thankfully. I'm looking forward to it now although I've only got 9 fully working fingers after a fall on icy rocks there in the past!

Well, that was harder than the marathon!

Huge turnout today. Race was a little delayed due to registrations being overwhelmed. I felt conditions were perfect for the terrain. Came away with a great improvement on my 2019 performance. Will do up a race report on my log tomorrow/Monday. Really enjoyed it, one of my favourite races, will be back next year.
