You should also price a replacement head. Check the wear indicator.

Tough nut to crack. Invested in a drift set. Have the latch pin hammered to smithereens but no movement yet.

@AckwelFoley would be the best placed to give you some advice. They seem to know their stuff about trailers.

Why did OP not just get a replacement key?

Tried through the an ifor Williams dealer but they said it would be impossible. Had the number from the hitch but they said no good.

That's ridiculous. I have a trailer with the same lock so it's good to know though.

Said there were too many keys and would be too hard to trace. Not sure to be honest. Out trailer was bought off donedeal last year so not registered in my name. Tried to soften it with oil anyway and will go back to hammering it today again.

Ifor don't make the hitch, they are made by knott, and replacement keys are a pain in the hole to manage. Bradley used to do them by number, but frankly a decent locksmith will sort replacement keys.

To get the lock out you need to lift the handle up (assuming its not in the locked state) and expose the roll pin on the side. Get a punch and hammer it out. This then allows you to remove the cast block the lock is set into.

Lock then is dismantled from the back, there's a screw. Be careful, it's spring loaded so take care to reassemble the new lock the way the old one was assembled

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

    Yes this hitch is Knott.

Can lift handle up, so not in a locked state. Wedged it up with a piece of wood but can't get the latch pin to budge. Bought a punch set but will keep hammering.

Novice here so thanks for the advice

It will come out. Make sure the punch is right size. Too big, and you're hitting the outer casting. But, yea they can require a bit of persuading

    Thank you

Would a locksmith not be able to sort it. I recall years ago a locksmith opening a safe that a previous tenant left behind when he vacated an office we moved into. (keys were lost for years) It was a massive heavy yoke, and turned out to be empty. The locksmith made a new key to suit and was back in service again

A locksmit would sort it. But, would need to look at the cost. Can he do it for less that 25 or 30 quid?

Thank you. Got it sorted. Vice grips and hammer got it out. So thanks for advice. 30 euro in end to replace lock.
