Which dishwasher?

My hotpoint mid range dishwasher has kicked the bucket. To be honest it was a terrible machine. Broke after 2y, repaired and insured it with D&G and now it is irreparable. Not even 6y old.

I hate doing this exercise every 5 - 6 years so am contemplating a Miele. What are people's experiences? I know the old machines are legendary but are they still making them to the same standard?

Other brands I see rated fairly well anecdotally are AEG, Bosch, Electrolux and Beko? Have a Beko dryer and it is actually going very well for me. Pleased with it so far. Bought at the higher end of their products, can't recall how much, probably around the €500 mark, to date that is where I tend to buy.

Would love some opinions. D&G have paid up for the dishwasher so I could add to that and trade up to a Miele if it's really worth it.

    Tks

We've a Miele. 2.5 years old. Fault showed up yesterday and they're saying 3 weeks til they can look at it. I'd steer well clear. For a brand that is perceived (perhaps by itself) as high-end with strong levels of customer service they have absolutely failed to deliver. I definitely won't buy from them again. In the past I've had Bosch dishwashers and have got 9-12 years problem free. I've also had Bosch washing machines and tumble driers with no issues and reasonable life-spans.

Yes I'm feeling a little bitter as I harass the troops into another lot of dish-washing!

That is really annoying, 3w to show up to look at it?! I also feel if they think they're so reliable why isn't the warranty longer than 2y?

Anyway, in the end I actually went for a bosch. It's coming on Thursday. Fingers crossed I'll get a good one!

bought a 45cm miele this year. 20 year old bosch gave up the ghost. would have bought another bosch but no where in Ireland had any of the mid range or expensive 45cm bosch dishwashers in. so ended up with miele, it's fine but don't rate the racks in it, very difficult to fill crackery and pots compared to the bosch

I’d avoid Beko , we bought a tall fridge and tall freezer three years ago and it’s true “ you get what you pay for “

you should be able to get a Bosch for circa 600 which does the job, we bought a Siemens nearly six years ago for 950 and you are really only paying three hundred extra for software options you never use, lesson is you can go too cheap or too expensive

I can't really give you an honest assessment of some of the newer brands like LG an Samsung or the high end models because I haven't seen enough of them to have an opinion either way. Whirlpool dishwashers are reliable and when they do have a problem the parts are reasonably priced and their repairs are fairly simple to do.

I've had a bosch for 5 years and no complaints never any issues. It helps too that I put everything into it, don't really need to do pre scrubbing pre washing with it, it cleans just fine.

Thanks everyone. Bought a bosch in the end, 779, a bit ouchy but hopefully I will get at least 10y out of it!

Bosch all the way, and don't waste your money on insuring it.

Insuring anything beyond your car/home/health is a folly.

I tend to think the majority of them have the same parts inside so not alot between them.

Anytime I've been looking for parts for appliances, the specific part whether it's an oven switch or washing machine motor, the parts are listed as fitting about 20 different brands.

We had a Bosch for 15 years, eventually gave out and replaced with another Bosch. However chap delivering and collecting old one, did say that the newer builds are less robust. So we'll see. The things that get most use and wear in a dishwasher are the door and sliding shelves. On cheap ones the shelf mechanisms stick & catch frequently.

    Dont buy zanussi anyway.

We got a Zanussi dishwasher, fridge, freezer and hob about 5 or 6 years ago.

The only thing that lasted more than 3 years is the freezer. Even the guy who fixed the dishwasher the first time said dont buy Zanussi if you want an appliance to last. He said most of them have built in defects now, but zanussi is the worst. They want them to fail after about 2 or 3 years.

On the Bosch/Siemens/neff range of dishwashers always make sure you have the rectangular sump filter locked into place with the round micro filter otherwise you will run into trouble with an emptying problem u

bought a miele (45cm cos we couldnt get anything else) it works fine but our old 25 year old bosch was much easier to pack stuff into

    We’ve a Miele since 2016 - has worked flawlessly.

We are 10 years in our house and the dishwasher was already there when we moved in( it did look fairly new) and it's still perfect.

    It's an Electrolux.

If it breaks next week, I'm blaming this trend😉

We also have a whirlpool fridge and double oven all over 10 years old and perfect.

We have gone through 2 washing machines though.

We have had a Miele for the past two or three years and it is the best dishwasher we have had. It is as near silent as you will get and it washes and dries crockery and cutlery very well. It has some quirks when it comes to fitting things in so as to maximise the available capacity but I would still rate it highly.

I do hope your not spending loads on your electricity bills and i have a Bosch dishwasher and reduced my temp from 70 -55 hoping to save on that

Keep away from the Ikea top of the range dishwasher. It leaves terrible residue on the dishes. I should have sent it back at the beginning. And all the 'uses very little water' actually means it just doesn't wash your dishes very well!

I've a Siemens washing machine and it drives me mad, again literally from day one, it beeps all the time to tell me there's not enough water feeding into it. You can't brush off it but it resets. It's way too temperamental Gosh I hate it.

Bring back the Manuel dials, I will never again buy any of these electronic beeping everything's that think a cup full of water is suffice. for washing a full load of clothes/delph.

I’ve a Bosch washing machine and a Bosch Dryer, twenty years old , never a problem. I gave my old Bosch washing machine to a friend. It’s over thirty years old and still going. I replaced a belt in it myself once. My Bosch fridge and dishwasher are nine years old, no problems so far. You can guess what I’ll be buying next time.

Miele and BSH (Bosch Siemens and Neff) basically dominate the quality end of the dishwasher market. Your preference for Miele vs Bosch might come down to just the rack layouts. They’re excellent machines either way.

Where Miele’s quality is absolutely outstanding though is in their washing machines and dryers. They’re built more like light commercial machines. We’ve a relatively new one and it still has huge suspensions, outer drum is stainless steel, the counter balance weights are solid metal, not concrete and it weighs about 2X any of its competitors. Motors etc are all top notch. They are genuinely built to last - I’d give all that auto-dosing nonsense a skip though. It’s a gimmick and puts the price up.

My parents have a Miele machine from the mid 1990s and it’s never been serviced and gets used pretty heavily. Brilliant machine - couldn’t fault it. They’re not exactly ‘stylish’ but they’re built like a tank.

Also their vacuum cleaners are really good - I’ve ‘inherited’ one which was bought in 1995 and it’s still working flawlessly and you can get all the accessories and filters, absolutely no problem at all as they just stick to a standard. I wouldn’t bother with their bagless machines though - have heard mix reviews - seems to be a ‘work in progress’.

When my washing machine breaks (a Samsung) I'll def check out Miele so.

The Bosch is in fairness a lovely machine. Even my 13 yo noticed it was doing a better job than the old one! I must say it is at least a definite step up from any of my old machines in terms of daily performance.

I'll post back here when it dies!!!

For anyone interested, model number here: SMV6ZCX01G

I have a Miele washing machine with a bad noisy vibration on fast spin and lowering it to a lower speed is not heard.

I've had a Bosch for over 10 years. Good brand. Meile way too expensive imo...I guess they will all have faults at some stage.
