I've a Honda stream that needs a rear window. Unfortunately i can't seem to find a replacement. Lucky enough I've full windscreen cover that covers all windows except sunroof. My question is what happens if windscreen company can't source the window ? I would imagine the insurance will cover it to be written off. If this is the case then are the insurance company responsible due to the fact that I'm paying for window cover in policy ?

If you’re interested in keeping the car, this glass could be transferred. You’d probably have to buy the whole tailgate. Not sure how this would tie in with the insurance or what your preference is.

Ring your insurance company and let them worry about sourcing one, that is part of why you pay them a premium every year. They might have to order one from Japan which takes time to arrive if they cannot find one in Europe.

Have tried to buy the whole tailgate but no joy, everyone i found on Donedeal and various sites didn't have the whole tailgate. i tried Honda and they don't do them anymore, i even tried Honda Uk. I found a Japanese site, but they don't ship large items to Ireland.

Rang insurance they told me to contact windscreen company that they deal with, they said they will get back to me. i already rang the same windscreen company previous and they said they didn't have any and they didn't really know much.

You need to ask the windscreen company then what is the next step if they cannot find one. They cannot just leave you hanging or fob you off. If they cannot source one then they need to inform your insurance company who then needs to look at all options available.

It could take considerable time to source one somewhere but either way you need to know. Unfortunately because that model Stream was never offically sold in Europe, sourcing replacement parts can be a challenge.

I'm hoping insurance or windscreen company will get back to me with Options. As you said they can't leave it too long the way it is as i don't think leaving it the way it is long term is going to do the car any favours. Last thing i want is water to get into the electrics.

Your insurers obligation is to cover the cost of replacing your windscreen, not necessarily to provide you with a replacement one. If you have a policy which says you are covered for a replacement windscreen up to a limit of €X, they may well pay you this amount and leave you source one as best you can.

Obviously, your insurer will use their approved repairer as best they can to solve the problem. However, if you're looking for them to write the vehicle off, this will move the claim away from being a windscreen one, to being an own damage one. This will affect your claims experience and NCB if not protected

i don't want it wrote off. I'm paying for window cover, and they can't leave it without a window. if they can't find one then i would assume it's their problem considering i paying for cover.

Thats not how it works unfortunately, they will pay the max, which will be in your policy and tell you to go away basically

I hope you're not coming to the insurer with an attitude like that. The insurer will be even more unlikely to be helpful.
