Used car from Dealer

    Hi all,

I bought a car in last year from a dealer ( not sure i can give the name ) during Covid and everything was done via email or phone calls and the car was delivered at my home by them . Few days ago i got a message on the dash that i need to book a service and out of curiosity when i checked the history i just realized that one service from previous owner was done almost 15k after the recommended mileage. I was a bit surprised as this was not mentioned when i bought the car . i have no knowledge on mechanics and i am a bit worried that the overdue service could affect the engine in time , what do you think ?

    Thank you in advance.

Probably ok. Chances are that it was serviced, but the book was not stamped by the garage.

The garage likely gave it a good inspection before they bought it and in any case the sooner it’s serviced the better especially if it’s potentially overdue.

Most services are basic fluid checks, wipers, tyres & wheel alignment etc they don’t necessarily go for a major deep dive (every mechanic will be slightly different).

Keep in mind some drivers will get long life services. For example VW/Skoda recommend a 15k interval, but they also do a long life service with a 30k interval for people doing a lot of driving. The service itself and the oil/components used are exactly the same.
