Tax disk send to old address. Anyone else?

I was renewing my tax last week and realized I hadn't updated my address. During the renewal process I changed my address. I specifically remember doing this as it's probably the last thing I haven't changed.

Didn't check the email clarification untill no disk came for a week. Sure enough old address.

Now I need to go to the guards. No idea why they need to be involved. A waste if my time and theirs to be honest.

Just wondering if this happened to anyone else. I really am very sure I changed my address. Unless it was just linking that address with the credit card and still sending it to the old address as I hadn't updated my registration book?

I don't know why the new address didn't change or save when you were doing your motor tax renewal, as that or the VRC are the only ways you can change it. You should email them and query/tell them what happened and they might wave the lost disc reissue fee of €6. The Gardai are involved because they have to stamp the RF134 form you need to replace a lost tax disc.

Did you get a new VRC issued to your new address? If not, the car is still registered to the old address and you need to do the change of address on the VRC and send it to Shannon. It's freepost so you don't need a stamp.

    https://www.motortax.ie/OMT/changePersonalDetails.do

"Please tick the relevant section (Change of Address) on the reverse side of your Vehicle Registration Certificate (VRC) and return to us with the correct details.

We will change your details and post a new VRC to you.

You can also change address online but only as part of an online motor tax transaction.

You cannot change your address by email or over the phone."

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

It's very possible that it takes a certain length of time for the system to be updated when changing/updating your address. It may not be done instantaniously, hence why it was posted to the old address. If that is the case they should have a banner on the site stating updates made are not instantanious.

As for the Gardai involvement, they are required to witness your signature on an offical declaration form you are filling out in regard the lost motor tax disc. It's not a waste of their time, it's part of their duty.

What am I declaring? I have proof of my new address I could send in?

And there was no need for proof or Gardai involved the first time.

For various reasons I've had to move 4 times in 5 years. It seems like this is something that must happen to a lot of people. I am generally on top of changing addresses. I prioritised changing my insurance address but forgot about tax this time until renewal. I'd imagine a lot of people wait till renewal.

My insurance company now send insurance disk I can print out and use. Need to request them to send it.

Surly there is a better way of doing this than disks anyway.

I don't know what you are declaring. You stated you have to get the gardai to sign something so you must be declaring something as the AGS only stamp it as a witness to the declaration you are making.

A tax disc was issued for your car, which you don't have possession of.

You're reporting that lost or stolen, so that a new one can be issued.

That report is taken/witnessed by the Gardai.

Is there any way you can retrieve the issued disc from the old address?

I could try by turning up at the house. Would only have it a few days.

Recently bought so looking forward to not having to change address and reorganise my life every 12 months.

That would be my first port of call if it was close by, just knock in and ask if they have any post for you.

If you don't get it then you'll need to send a completed RF134 and €6 to your local motor tax office for a replacement. And get the change of address VRC sent off ASAP so they don't post the replacement to the wrong address also.
