cost of fitted units - alcove and tv unit

I was considering built in storage, some presses under the tv, wall mounted shelves and an alcove for books. I had assumed it would be perhaps 3,000 for everything, but the best quote was over 5,000 with a handful over 6,000 euros. Materials are spray painted MDF and chip board.

Its an unfair comparison but I used it to get a ballbark - a reasonably similar design in Ikea comes in at about 700 euros.

Of course this is not fitted and this is a skill that has to be paid for.

I also understand the units are cut to fit the space, and installed, but the wood is MDF & chipboard and installation time is quoted as less than a day in most cases.

Is fabrication and installation really costing north of 4,000 euros?

Is this just the cost of fitted units, or have prices gone up quite a bit in the last year or so?
