Making a pension AVC to claim relief for a previous year

Thanks in advance for any guidance - I know that there's a deadline at the end of this month for making any final AVCs on a 2021 pension and claiming the tax relief. I've already done my tax return for 2021, so am wondering is it too late now to make a final AVC for 2021 and then claim the relief - is the process for making the claim via your 2021 tax return? Or is there another mechanism..? I know that I can claim a tax relief allowance for 2022 and there's a box on there for 'payments from 2021 that you haven't yet claimed relief for', but is that only for payments that were physically made in 2021..?

Contact your pension administrator and they will give you an account number to transfer the avc to, make sure you get a receipt. You can then use ROS to submit an enquiry looking to amend your return to reflect the AVC and attach the receipt. I've done this in the past and had no issues.

You would want to hurry up with it as 31st October is the deadline
