Do you need to tank a shower area that is on the ground floor? All three sides are concrete walls, concrete floor underneath, there is a shower tray, do the walls need to be tanked before tiling? Plumber refuses to tank and says not necessary because it's on the ground floor.

You don't "need" to tank any shower. It's a choice. If you choose you want to tank then I can't understand why your plumber will refuse to do it. Maybe he didn't include it in his quote?

British Standards have new recommendations on waterproofing/tanking in domestic bathrooms. BS 5385-1:2018 clause 6.1.1.3 for Tanking

Was just wondering is it the same in Ireland?

Plumber is installing new bathroom, however has not considered tanking. Would happily pay for it, but he insists it is not necessary. He says the primer on the walls is enough. I don't want a situation where there might be rising damp in walls if there's no tanking.
