Sold a damaged car today to a guy from advert ?!

    Hi,

I sold my damaged car to a guy from adverts.ie, he said he's a dealer and took the log book. My information is in the log book which I gave to him, but he did not fill any RF105, and I did not know that I have to fill in the form either.

Can someone advise in this case how can I avoid getting in trouble, just wondering if the dealer will change the ownership as the vehicle is still under my name.

Anything I can do at this point ?

    Thank You

How do you know he was a dealer?

Have a look on motortax.ie to see if any change of ownership has been logged.

Have you any documentation or receipt he was a dealer, would make it easier if something happens with the car and it's still in your name particularly if he is just someone selling cars as a sideline.

I'm afraid no receipt as he was coming to buy from advert, as said he just said he's a dealer and took the log book.

The car is Taxed till end of Oct, insurance is cancelled, and NCT till May 2023.

    He paid cash.

If he is a dealer he should do the change of ownership online and you will see it was transferred on the motortax website

If he’s not an official dealer he will probably just get the next owner to sign the logbook. But theres a small chance you could get fines etc if he drives the car through tolls or doesn’t change the ownership to the next person

Theres not much you can do now. It will probably be fine. Just keep an eye out for the new advert and you’ll see if he is actually selling the car or not

    I wouldn't worry OP.

Hopefully he'll just do a good job of burning it out after the hit or bank robbery he is going to use it for.

You can always go into witness protection with your man Dowdall if you end up being called to give evidence later

The car is damaged and not driveable without a recovery. He said he will either check for fixing it, or will chop up for parts.

He has all positive reviews on adverts, more than 200.

Can I know what happens once tax is expired and the vehicle is still on my name ?

    Thanks @Donald Trump..

If it is non fixable and is sent for scrap and your the last name on the log book you'll receive a confirmation letter of same from department of transport, we had our sons corsa taken away and gave log book to guy who done the pick up.
