I’m wondering is any Irish broadcaster showing the Women’s Rugby World Cup which starts in New Zealand next Saturday? It’s on ITV and ITV 4 in the UK.

RTE have the rights but don’t appear to be actually showing it. World feed coverage on the RTE Player would appear to be the best to hope for but I haven’t even seen that confirmed.

Probably a combination of Ireland not qualifying and most of the games are on between 12:30am and 8am so I imagine interest is low in the general public here.

EDIT: RWC own online stream will be available here as well Where to Watch | Rugby World Cup 2021 New Zealand

Yeah I appreciate that all probably plays a part, odd that the World Rugby website is still saying RTE have the rights when quite clearly they’re not showing any of it (and are more or less giving it zero coverage whatsoever). It’s on ITV and there’s the live stream on the WR website as you mention but odd of RTE to just ignore it like that given they gave the Women’s Euros a few months ago the full live treatment on RTE2 with ore and post game coverage and George Hamilton commentating and the Republic of Ireland weren’t in it. Of course that was in prime time.

I agree. It is still odd to give it no coverage whatsoever. I wonder will RTÉ also ignore the Women’s Soccer World Cup which is in Australia and New Zealand next year if Ireland fail to qualify for it.

Mikeecho I appreciate that’s a (very bad) joke but we might leave any discussion of that for other places on Boards. The length of a ban I would give for that outside of context would be much longer than 48 hours.

I suspect the Womens Euro's was compulsory - that it had to be shown as part of their contract with UEFA for the Mens's tournament.

Wonder why more matches could not be played later under lights?

Matches so early in the morning on TV here are hardly an attraction.

Because the tournament organisers want people physically at the games, which is why they are playing double headers (triple headers during the pool stage). In fairness, New Zealand is currently 12 hours ahead of us; having games kick off at prime time here is breakfast time there, while even a game starting at 10am our time will finish at near midnight there, far too late for kids.

Some of the attendances look pretty sparse even with the KO times as they are. A bit like the RL WC there has been a lot of mismatches in the pool stages.

As a little postscript to the above - RTE showed the final this morning, I think it got zero advanced promotion.
