This is a staple flour in Orkney where I lived many years. Loved it and would love to find it here. Has anyone else tried it?

There are farms there who do mail order! google... Orkney had the same "diaspora" as Ireland, its people scattering to the ends of the earth to survive.

It is a flour of character and texture. Very distinctive

I came across it on a few website stores but at £6 per kg and c£5 delivery charge it works out 6 times the price of flour in Tesco. We just couldn't justify it.

A local Orkney recipe was a stove top bannock as in past times not everyone had ovens. beremeal. ordinary flour ( strong works best) With the usual raising agents, and for me milk from my goat... Oh and a good way to use soured milk...
