    Heading to Australia over Christmas.

9 People with 8 large suitcases.

Will I get 8 large suitcases in to an X-Trail & Forester or will I need a third vehicle? Car rental company says 2 large but I always find their desciption to be on the conservative side.

I have fit 3 large and 1 small suitcases into the boot of a Prius rental before! I had an X-Trail in Washington earlier this year (they call it the Rogue in the US) and it fit 1 large and 1 small suitcase with acres of space to spare. I can imagine it would fit 4 large suitcases relatively easily. Depending on configuration, you could have them vertically on their side and they would fit across the boot that way or even stack 2 on top of each other and side by side.

To illustrate, I think you could fit them this way (||||) across the boot, or this way (==) and they would fit OK for the X-Trail. No idea on the Forester though but I think that is a smaller car.

No idea about boot size but as the X-Trail is the bigger car it probably has a bigger boot too.

    Hope that helps.

    Sorry for the late response.

Thanks to both of you for the feedback.

I think we'll go with the 2 cars. No rick, no reward.

    Thanks again
