What does it cost to get milk recording done, was thinking 4 times a year. Old parlour with one main jar and no electronic gadgets. Is there much involved in it. Who does it.

    Thanks.

Sounds like you will need DIY recording for your parlour set-up. Worth enquiring about it. Munster Bovine cover the Munster area. Not sure about other parts of the country.

Does it cost much, is it per visit or per cow?

You can get from 4-12 visits/year. Your price will then be calculated on how many visits you want and how many cows you have. Not sure on the price of DIY. Someone else on here might know more.

Progressive genetics also do it think its s €3-4 per cow. I have same setup as you. Handy enough if you have cows freeze branded.

I'm recording a very long time . I'm with pg and the milk board before that. We're in the A6 scheme which is every 6 weeks

That's probably a good scheme for anyone winter milking. I would say for most spring calving herds 4 recordings a year should nearly be enough.

Only started this year but I'd say it is.

Scc probe the most important part and for selective dry cow would prob want to go a bit more often, 6 anyway. First and last ones important

Diy electronic 4 recordings a year is 11 euro a cow with Munster I think

I had a call from the vet, looking for milk samples from higher scc cows and recent milk recording results in order to prescribe dry cow tubes, it won't be long till milk recording is made compulsory too I'd say. In fairness the data built up over a few years is helpful.

Anyone know what vets will be charging for "consulting" on dry cow treatment

Progressive cover the Aurivo area also, Aurivo set up a scheme to cover some of the cost for four recordings, coincidently Progressive also reviewed their price structure at exactly the same time and swallowed up what Aurivo were paying, c**ts

Definitely worth it, how can you make decisions on which cows to breed off if you don't know what each cow does?

As the rest said its also needed for selective dry cow therapy, theres a nice bit to be saved when you can get away with just sealing some cows
