Central Heating Running Cost per hour

    Hi all,

I am trying to work out how to calculate the running cost of central heating with a 24kw Gas boiler.

Gas is currently 0.0902 cent per kwh, while electricity is 30.34c/kWh.

Is it fair to say that the gas running cost for the boiler for one hour is 0.0902 X 24 = €2.16 p/h?

Does electricity need to be factored in also, and if so, how is this calculated?

    Cheers

It is difficult to do this as a gas boiler will vary its usage depending on demand. Best way to get a rough idea is to read the meter before turning it on and then an hour later. Note that usage will decrease for the second hour as demand decreases as things warm up. Electricity will be negligible.

If my efergy energy monitor is to be believed the pump/fan/?? in my Viessmann Vitodens 100 uses around 60W once it's up to temperature after about 10-15 minutes but around 80W when it first starts up.

As Wearb says, the only way to check the gas consumption is to take meter readings when you start it up and again after a set period. That'll be in m^3, so multiply by the conversion factor on your latest bill to get kWh.
